It’s the “Next Big Thing“.
Let me explain.
You might have seen reports last week about how WordPress now powers over 40% of the Internet. That’s absolutely true. A company called W3Techs ran the numbers and it’s been confirmed that over 40% of the Top TEN MILLION websites are currently running on WordPress.
While 40% is a good number, we know that 60% of the web is powered by something else. Want to guess what that is?
Nope. You’re wrong. You were probably going to guess one of the other big names out there that you heard of, like Shopify, Joomla, Drupal or Squarespace or even Wix, right? You’ve heard of them because they’ve either been around a long time or they spend a bunch of money on advertising.
Their share of the same numbers looks pathetic compared to WordPress’ 40%.
- Shopify – 3.3%
- Joomla – 2.1%
- Squarespace – 1.6%
- Drupal – 1.5%
- Wix – 1.5%
My Mother always said, “You wouldn’t jump off a cliff just because all of your friends did too, would you?” – and while she was right sometimes she wasn’t right about this as I jumped fearlessly off many cliffs as I was growing up. I was usually the one who jumped first!
So, just because all these other sites are built on WordPress, why should I?
It’s not a monkey see, monkey do kind of thing. It’s because developers, companies, and anyone who comes up with an incredible idea that will change the world, they are going to make it for the most used platform. That NEXT BIG THING that your site is going to want isn’t going to be made for Wix or Squarespace. It’s going to be made for WordPress and that’s why you should build your site on WordPress.
* All of our sites are built on WordPress and yes, we’ve seen plenty of those NEXT BIG THINGs come out just for WordPress!
